DAY 2- NANOWRIMO

Facebook is like a warm-up writing exercise, as is talking on the phone. It is all about getting my thoughts together so I can apply my words on the computer screen so that they make sense.
Habakkuk 2:2 (KJV)
2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

At some point the words come together and I start writing something worth reading. Scriptures, like the one above come to my head and I discuss on paper what it means to me. But for now, I have errands to run.

And I am back, eight and half hours later. Life happens and for many writers life can be a distraction, I think distractions are worst than writers’ block. Distractions take you away from the thought process needed to write, take you out of the “zone”. Even if you have a great outline, the sentences still have to come together, the characters have to remain in character, the facts must be presented in a logical order, the time line must be accurate, a distraction will cause you to forget what you were planning next. I knew what I was going to write about today but then I went to vote and the experience disturbed me.
This is the first time I voted in this state. Where I used to live I would be bombarded by people campaigning as close to the entrance as the law allowed, they were there but they let their signs do the talking. Because I walk with a walking stick (cane) I was told I could vote in my car- I declined the offer. As I entered the voting room I was reaching in my person for my ID while a woman was asking for my name and address, before I could hand her my now in hand drivers’ licens she was handing me my ballot.
“Don’t you need to see my ID?” I asked.
“No we don’t” she stated as she pointed to where I needed to sign and giving me instructions on how to vote.
“Where I used to live, Florida, we had to show our ID.”
“You don’t have to do it here.”
“Hmmm, another reason to move back to Florida.” I responded as I walked towards a voting booth.
As I completed my responsibilities as a citizen of the United States of America I thought to myself: It is very easy to cast a fraudulent vote in this state. I was thinking I would write about that- the sentences were formulating in my head as I headed towards my car.
I had two errands to complete this morning and I had accomplished them both in less than an hour. I decided to go to my new favorite fast food restaurant for lunch. Normally I order a BLT (bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich) from Checkout but I decided today to try the chicken quesadilla, this decision became a distraction. When I got home and looked into my warmly wrapped meal what I saw was a soft taco shell, cheese and a few specks that I suspect was the chicken, clearly this was a new crew they had working the kitchen. I ate my un-chicken quesadilla and phoned a friend.
I had not planned on talking that long or talking to the next person that called as long as I did. By the third phone call I had no thoughts of writing nor did I want to watch television. I can tell you that my new Twitter account is set up and I have made at least four tweets and replied to someone who replied to my commment regarding her tweet.
When a writer is distracted, at least when I am distracted, we go on rabbit trails. In the eight and a half hours since I started this writing session I have: gone to the sheriff’s office to pick up my gun permit, that is about 5 minutes from my home; voted, thirty minutes tops, got lunch from Checkout, five minute-ish from my home, and came home; I talked on the phone for a couple of hours, set up my Twitter account, ate again and did some house cleaning.
Whatever I thought I was going to write about is long forgotten but I will be writing something later on. Yesterday after writing my “Day 1” entry for NaNoWriMo I wrote another thousand words on my experiences picking cotton. I think I wanted to write about my faith a bit, that is why I wrote Habakkuk 2:2 but my day was far from plain thus I am going to have to do something to get myself back in the zone. My choice watch Colombo, Sue Thomas FB-Eye, a Christmas movie or journal. None of the above: I am going to watch a little YouTube because it will help me write about voting my faith.

Note to self: I decided, because I am writing two entries each day I will only post one
Today’s entry #2: I voted today needs to be edited before I can post it which may mess up my numbers for NaNoWriMO.
