As a non-fiction writer who does not have “formal” training the challenge is to make sure the reader understands the words presented are the beliefs of the writer and make sure what is being written is credible. Like any book ebooks can be revised, it is easier to update an ebook than a print. My Bible program includes a commentary from Andrew Wommack, it is updated frequently. Because the commentary is on my computer and not print the information is easily placed where it needs to be within the program and I do not have to purchase another book or receive a piece of paper in the mail. Four of the ebooks I have published I have updated in order to clarify a few points. I have taken the ebooks out of publication status so that I can revisit some comments to be sure I still agree with them.
I can tell you that what I believed at 62 is not what I believed when I was 32. Jesus was and is Lord of my life but, various biblical understandings that I was taught I have since learned are not so. When I was younger I accepted what my church leader and Bible teachers stated as accurate however when I changed churches and took additional classes I discovered these individuals had a different perspective, a different understanding. Since writing those ebooks I have begun searching the Scriptures for myself.
Proverbs 4:5-7 (KJV)
5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
It is easy to find someone who agrees with you. What I do is find people who disagree with me and then attempt to prove one of us is right. I have a friend who has a degree in history I have discovered she is often historically wrong, she was taught from a very liberal perspective thus certain facts were left out of her curriculum. When pointing out to her someone else teaches an opposite point of view based on various validated facts she ignores them. People will “forsake” wisdom to create their own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
As a faith motivated writer whenever I must be sure that my words agree with Scripture. Christian writers must interpret the Bible within the perimeters of the context it was written. For example: there were no cars or even bicycles in biblical times thus going to the next town was not a fifteen minute drive; feeding 5,000 required more than just placing an order at Popeye’s or even catching a bunch of fish and then throwing it in a microwave, nor could you just grab a loaf of bread from the grocery store. Time was treated differently back then. Christian writers must understand that God allowed each of the books that make up the Bible to be part of the Bible for a reason and none of it is to be ignored.
2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Further more man-made credentials, income brackets, business related or church given titles are all irrelevant when it comes to writing faith motivated words. Man may approve of what you write but if your goal is to get God’s approval then your focus should be, my focus is, pointing people to the Truth who is Jesus the only begotton Son of God the Father.
Philippians 3:4-8 (KJV)
4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
