LEARNING THE LYRE PART 2
I am a novice, I have decades old knowledge of music in general and zero knowledge regarding instruments. Therefore, the upcoming post are going to be for people such as myself who love music but are clueless when it comes to playing instruments. Yes, I am going to talk about the basics, perhaps to basic for many.
Before purchasing any instrument ask yourself:
Will I practice with patience? I planned to practice at least 5 days a week for at least 30 minutes. The first week I averaged 2 hours a session. I will explain why later.
What are my expectations? I want to be able to play Christian songs in my private time of prayer and worship, no audiences. I don’t want to play professionally,if you want to play professionally, I would suggest you hire a teacher.
What type of songs do I want to play? Can you play them on the lyre? Not all lyres have 16 strings, there are some with fewer, fewer strings means fewer notes. Below are the two video links I am recommending, note the sound of the instrument.
What if, after 5 months I am still not good at playing the lyre? Practice makes perfect: Don’t quit! Life happens and if the time you planned for practicing was not available- try again. UNLESS, you just don’t like the instrument, then give yourself permission to not pursue that instrument.
These are the video’s I watched when deciding what to purchase.
