HOMEMAKER or CAREER WOMAN

It has taken me a long time two unhealthy marriages and two careers, LPN and Tax Professional, before I realized what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be a homemaker and now I am!

John 17:16 (KJV)
They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

I left nursing because I became angry at the injustices found in health care; there is no care in todays medical field. Once upon a time I moved up the corporate ladder and became a general manager of a tax office, now I have a private practice that I am in the process of phasing out and I work for a tax company. But, my major focus is crafting and maintaining my home. I am more pleased with learning how to maintain a home than I ever was in either career.

If I had known what the Bible said decades ago perhaps I could have reached this understanding sooner. I could have been a stay at home mother, learned to cook great meals, been better at sewing and married the man God had for me. Or, perhaps not, the word states: “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” )Romans 8:29) I landed where I am today because of my yesterdays.

My experiences as a career woman, a wife, and mother both married and single, gave me the opportunity to see what it takes to be successful at both. A woman can do both but there are consequences when she does.

The world tells us that we can do it all: have a great career, be an awesome wife and mother AND have your me time. Scripture does not teach that. Jesus prayed: “They are not of the world,”. I am part of that “they” are you? Christians should not embrace life the way other people do. God instructs women to be her husbands helper and to raise her children. A woman’s home is her priority.

Work is a priority to many because of the number of things they have. The world promotes the accumulation of things, as do worldly churches. There are a lot of unhappy people who have a lot of stuff.

The virtuous woman worked but it was out of her overflow. He husband and children were her priority, because her house was in order she was able to make money as a “crafter”. I know Scripture doesn’t identify her as a crafter.

Proverbs 31:13-24 (KJV)
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

Many women, most of the ones I know, will reject what I say. Many churches will encourage women to work if she wants to and have her girl’s night out. I have decided, God is right.
