HEARING AND OBEDIENCE

Romans 10:13-17 (KJV)
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

I just started studying “obedience’ and I have learned so much already. My first blog post “OBEDIENCE: A Study of God’s Word” posted August 2, 2024 had a Bible verse in it that was not on my list of verses to read. After posting I continued to meditate on what I had read is developed, matured, by listening to, hearing God’s Word not man’s opinions.

In reviewing the definition of Obey, from Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.
“Hebrew Strong’s Number: 8085: Transliteration: shāmaʿ Vine’s Words: Hear (To)

a primitive root; to hear intelligently (often with implication of attention, obedience, etc.; causative to tell, etc.) :- × attentively, call (gather) together, × carefully, × certainly, consent, consider, be content, declare, × diligently, discern, give ear, (cause to, let, make to) hear (-ken, tell), × indeed, listen, make (a) noise, (be) obedient, obey, perceive, (make a) proclaim (-ation), publish, regard, report, shew (forth), (make a) sound, × surely, tell, understand, whosoever [heareth], witness.”

In revisiting my first post and the Bible verse I used Genesis 27:8 It is a mother directing her son to listen to obey her voice. There are church leaders and politicians that are presenting information and many are listening to them and “perceiving” (see the above list of word usage) what they hear to be truthful. If you believe what you hear to be truthful and or just your behavior will reflect such.
Romans 1017 states that faith comes by hearing.
We submit to, obey: ideologies, philosophies, behaviors, and such based on what we hear and accept.

In addition to the Hebrew definition of Obey I reviewed the Greek:
“From Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary: “Greek Strong’s Number: 5219 Transliteration: hypakouō Vine’s Words: Obedience, Obedient, Obey
Usage Notes:
English Words used in KJV:
obey 18
be obedient to 2
hearken 1
[Total Count: 21]
from (hupo) and (akouo); to hear under (as a subordinate), i.e. to listen attentively; by implication to heed or conform to a command or authority :- hearken, be obedient to, obey.

There is a direct relationship with what we hear and what we believe. Unfortunately many individuals who are considered church leaders: Apostles, Bishops, Pastors Elders, Evangelist, Prophets, Prophetess, et. Al., are not placed in those positions by God; “And how shall they preach, except they be sent?” Furthermore, there are many people in positions of leadership and/ or influence who are not there because of their godly intentions. If those in leadership positions are not listening to God they will not speak God’s truth, the people the are speaking to are hear lies. If you hear lies you will believe lies.
To discover the truth we must hear from God.

John 16:13 (KJV)
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The reason to study obedience because it is how you will hear from God.

John 10:27 (KJV)
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
