Exodus 5:2 (KJV)
And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
How do you know the Lord? Is it what family told you; is it what friends told you; or is it what the church leader said? Pharaoh asked Moses: Why should he obey His voice? Do you have an answer?
If you have not read my previous post then you will not know that I am studying “obey” and “obedience”. To “obey” is to listen, the term many bible translations use instead of what King James uses. I talked about fearing the Lord in my last post, I bring that up because if you don’t know who the Lord is you will not have any fear of Him.
I can’t tell you who the Lord is, you have to figure that out yourself. Jesus said, His sheep hear his voice.
John 10:14-16 (KJV)
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
It is interesting to note that when Jesus speaks of hearing his voice, the term is from a Greek word that means to hearken or hear. I hear birds every morning, I hearken; I am aware of the birds. I obey, listen to, my beloved; I am going to respond to his voice; his words cause a reaction on my part. God speaks to me through Scripture and I hear Him my response is to do those things I believe He wants me to do.
Pharaoh admits that he does not know the Lord therefore he will not let Israel go. Obedience is relational, to develop a relationship with the Lord you must spend time with Him. I used to belong to churches that would go witnessing; knocking on doors and telling people about Jesus, I don’t do that anymore. Now I tell people to read their bible and ask God to give them understanding; if they have any questions I might be able to help but I can’t lead anyone to Christ.
Isaiah 55:6 (KJV)
6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
I can tell people about my faith but I can’t lead a person to my faith; he or she must seek Him on their own. Who is the Lord? He is my Creator, my Saviour, my Help and much more.
