AGING WITH MATURITY

As I get older the mistakes I made become obvious to me. I have repented, not in church but to my Creator God. I realize now, we all have made mistakes, no one is perfect. I also understand that those we grew up with may not recognize the change. The word states: “No prophet is accepted in his own country. (Luke 4:24)“ I say those who mature in faith confirmed by their behavior is not recognized by those who knew them back then if they choose not to see.

Conversely, when a person, such as myself, has changed he or she gives others the benefit of the doubt and presume that he or she too has changed. This is not always the case.

Matthew 10:16 (KJV)
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
Matthew 7:22-23 (KJV)
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

With age should come wisdom. It is my opinion that wisdom and common sense go hand in hand and we have an unusual amount of individuals who refuse to utilize common sense. James 1:5 states: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” The problem is these individuals don’t really believe the Bible is the infallible word of God.

James 1:5-7 (KJV)
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

How powerful is God’s word!

As I get older I seek Eloheem (God) more than ever. It is because I seek Him and not “them” (man’s opinions) that I grow in wisdom, knowledge and understanding. I have chosen to please the God of the Bible and not man’s opinion, no matter what title he has before his name or the number of letters he has after his name; I feel the same about all the she’s of theology as well.

I believe we are in the ending of time and there are a lot of people I know personally who think they are mature but are not. I believe this because, though some have said they have read their Bible, though many give regularly to church and charities, though some attend church regularly they reject the commandments of God. These are the individuals who do not accept my ideology.

There is a line in a poem by Langston Hughes that I love: “I’se still climbin’”. At 64, I am not perfect but I am still seeking God and maturing in the process. I will include the poem: Mother to Son by Langston Hughes (1901-1967) below.

MOTHER TO SON
By Langston Hughes

Well, son, I’ll tell you:
Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
It’s had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare;
But all the time
I’se been a’climbin’ on,
And reachin’ landin’s,
And turnin’ corners,
And sometimes goin’ in the dark,
Where there ain’t been no light.
So boy, don’t you turn back;
Don’t you sit down on the steps,
’Cause you finds it’s kinder hard;
Don’t you fall now—
For I’se still goin’, honey,
I’se still climbin’,
And life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
