A TALE OF TWO SISTERS

Two women mentioned in the Bible with similar lifestyles both influenced men one was named Rahab (Joshua 2:1- 6:25 the other Delila (Judges 16:4-21). Delilah used her influence to destroy a man; Rahab used her influence to help men. In the end Rahab changed her way of living and was blessed by God. What happened to Delilah?

Hebrews 11:31 (KJV)
31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.
James 2:25 (KJV)
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

Both women had options. Rahab could have told the army where the spies were and perhaps received a reward. She would have remained as she could have continued her life as a whore. Delilah could have not told Samson’s secret and perhaps she would have become his wife, no longer needing to use her body to manipulate men to give her whatever it is she wanted.

There are other women in the Bible who made noteworthy choices. Eve chose to not consult her husband and listened to the serpent; eating the fruit resulted in her spiritual death and a curse as well as all of mankind. Mary chose to submit to the will of God while engaged to Joseph, her pregnancy could have resulted in her physical death but God was with her. Eve was cursed, Mary was blessed.

Genesis 3:16 (KJV)
16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

Luke 1: 28,38 (KJV)
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

There is always a choice: man’s way or God’s way. It is not hard to follow God’s way IF YOU ARE NOT MOVED by popular opinion. The Bible is not Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth, basic instructions given you wiggle room; the Bible is Sripture, the Word of God. I can tell you how to “basically” do something and you can put you can tweak, or spin, on it so that it fits your comfort zone. God’s word cannot be downsized to an acronym.

Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV)
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Not everyone believes in the infallible word of God; I do. I recognize the style in which certain verses are written: narrative, prophetic, poetic and such as well as the historic aspects associated with the Writings. For example: I don’t have eagle’s wings (Isaiah 40:31), but Jesus is God manifested in the flesh (John 1:1-14).

It is important to study God’s word as it is written not as we want it to be. God has a place for women. Being a woman of God is a very important roll and with it becomes life changing responsibilities. We become wives then we become mothers so that we can influence nations. This does not mean that women cannot work outside of the home BUT home should be a priority for any woman who is married and/or has children. Mother is the only title a woman should celebrate. (NOTE: I do not celebrate Mother’s Day, it is a man made event. I am a mother every day.)

Proverbs 31:28-30 (KJV)
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
