MY THOUGHTS: A MARRED VESSEL

Jeremiah 18:1-4 (KJV)
1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

None of us are perfect, it is the presence of the Spirit of God residing in us that perfects’ us day by day. By perfecting I mean, making us Christ like. Jesus said: “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48 KJV) The Greek word is “Telios”; “ “teleios” is used to describe something that has reached its end or purpose, signifying completeness or maturity.” (see: https://biblehub.com/greek/5046.htm) In other words: God wants us to be mature, His only begotten Son is the standard.
When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are like marred clay, corrupted by outside forces, living as the world lives. The Spirit of God becomes our Potter as the Hand of God begins the process of forming us in the way He wants us to be. I saw this video and it made me think of the free gift of restoration our heavenly Father gives us through Jesus. Note, the vessel is the same but the presentation is different.

Jeremiah 18:5-10 (KJV)
5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.

The choice is an individual choice.

Here is another lesson from the video. The family that inherited the house chose to not do anything with it. For years they allowed the home to deteriorate. The home was their inheritance yet they chose to ignore it. How many people focus on the past and ignore the hope which is found in a personal relationship with God through Jesus His Son.

1 Thessalonians 5:8 (KJV)
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

The house is an old house but it still has possibilities. There are people who take the time to restore old homes. Father God restores broken vessels at any age.
