RETHINKING WRITING CHALLENGES

Since my last writing challenge: I have not edited the 50K manuscript and I did not join the next challenge in January nor did I sign up for another one. I did, however, make a decision regarding my participation on future challenges.
Writing challenges are great for people who need to get started with their first writing effort and for those who like producing popular fiction, books that entertain. If you are writing historical fiction, biography or non-fiction, the challenge should be seen as a an opportunity to gather preliminary information and creating an outline.
After thinking about the challenges I have participated in I can admit that it was fun. I also learned that I can write fifty thousand words in a month despite working, sewing, and interacting with people. Thinking about all of my writing challenges and what I write now I realize that I do enjoy blogging and I prefer my booklets than writing books.
In the back of my mind I think about the motivation behind writing and publishing my first book I ever published: THE TRUTH ABOUT VASHTAI written by me, under my then married name, Marsha Randolph. I was grieving the loss of my son and my mother at the time and I was not working and people left me alone, I had the time. Another lesson I learned, you can use a pseudo name when you publish!
In addition: I did not like the marketing it took to sell enough copies of a book to make money. I really have no desire to do that again. I also hate with a passion, editing!
I wrote: BEFORE YOU PRAY FOR ME, BROKEN AND NOT A$HAMED, YOU’RE NOT READY and MOVING FORWARD BY FAITH as booklets in an ebook format, and aside for editing I enjoyed the process. I have had blogs for more than 10 years, though the names have changed as did their content, I still write in the original 3 blogs and recently added a 4th one: MARSHA WRITES, BEYOND THE BOOKSTORE, CONVERSATIONS ABOUT FAITH and MARSHA SEWS AND GROWS and COOKS. Despite my accomplishments I did not consider myself a writer until late 2025! Moving forward should I choose to participate in a writing challenge I will write short stories or essays but for now I will be editing my booklets for republication and developing a routine to post on my blogs regularly.
