Why did I start thinking about tattoos after writing Scriptures today? Well, I was watching television and an image of a girl with a nose ring was shown and I was thinking about how the Bible indicates people enslaved had rings placed in their nose.
Isaiah 37:29 (KJV)
Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
And then I started thinking about tattoos!
Leviticus 19:28 (KJV)
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.
I know Christians who have tattoos and I know a few who have nose rings. They treat it like a fashion statement. I think nose rings are a symbol not a fashion statement and tattoos have side effects . There is a Pastor that I listen to and respect that has tattoos and family members as well, are they going to hell because of the tattoos? I don’t think so.
I wear head coverings most of the time. I never know when I am going to pray, and I talk to God most of the day, a form of praying. Most Christians think this is not necessary and I have heard many sermons on why Apostle Paul wrote that but 1 Corinthians 11:5, my understanding, is very specific
1 Corinthians 11:5 (KJV)
But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
The difference is the qualifiers. Leviticus indicates that the cuttings, tattoos, are not to be done for “the dead” whereas, 1 Corinthians talks about head covering, in the New Testament (Covenant) “that prayeth or prophesieth” no mention of what women used to do when they worshiped pagans. Anyway, I think the nose ring makes a person look foolish and the tattoos will look weird when he or she gets older, should they live long, and the skin gets flabby.
The bottom line is this, you need to read, study and get understanding of God’s Word, and not my or man’s opinion, for your self.
Philippians 2:12-13 (KJV)
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
