I have decided to live intentionally. What does that mean? It means that I will not address foolishness. What does that mean? This means: I will not interact with people who are argumentative, don’t like me, don’t want me around, and / or seem to bring drama with them while in my presence. In addition, I will plan my day filled with productive purposeful activities, I will maintain an attitude that is pleasant and peaceful, particularly when I am interacting with others and I will always seek first the Kingdom of God.
Intentional living is not: loud, bombastic (over-the-top, ghetto), foolish or, because of “they”.
Loud Living: this is when an individual is intentionally noticeable. People who must share their opinions on social media in order to get approval, checks and or likes, live loud. People who, when they show up at an event, know he or she is going to get drunk and boisterous and, those who create scenes in private and public places are what I refer to as loud and wrong. These individuals generally have a profane vocabulary to match their dramatic ways.
Bombastic living: this is an over-the-top, beyond loud, self-centered ostentatious lifestyle. The language, the clothing, as well as the behavior of such individuals is entertaining to some but ridiculous to others; it is hard to take these individuals seriously. It is an attention getting lifestyle that seems, at least to me, exhausting. Who wants to be on stage 24/7?
Foolish living: This is a generalization I know but, people who live foolishly seem to start quite a few sentences with: “I know I shouldn’t but….”, followed by behaviors that are counter-productive. They spend money they don’t have, eat food that is not good for them, they get drunk or high, they lie, and have other lifestyle choices that eventually lead to regret. They repeat behaviors that they no are wrong which results in the same mess as before only to repeat it again; the greatest example is failed relationships. Foolish living leads to a failed life, regardless of income.
“They” living: Is a combination of all of the above motivated by trends and popular opinions. Also referred to as: keeping up with the Jones’, people pleasing, following the crowd, getting on the bandwagon, or trending, all ares type of conformity. “They” living strips a person of his or her identity in exchange for being accepted by someone or a group of someone’s thus, he or she can behave loud, bombastic and / or foolish but it is not who he or she really is.
When you know who you are and why you are the way you are and you like yourself ,then you are can freely live intentional. Living intentional requires appreciating how God made you. We are all made different thus it is important that to appreciate our uniqueness.
Psalm 139:13-16 KJV
- For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
- I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
- My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
- Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
Psalm 139 verses 13-16 is a reminder that God knows me and my imperfection yet He sees me fearfully and wonderfully made. I can live the life He chose for me intentionally regardless of other people’s opinions, behaviors and trends.
So, I Marsha, live life by following Scripture. I practice head covering, dress modestly, and try to love people. I do not try to be like other people, not even family, I have let go of and will continue to release relationships that are forced and ignore those who reject what I do. I live intending to do those things that please Him not them.

I wrote the above a few weeks ago, in the interim I decided I wanted to focus on getting older as a 66-year-old Christian, conservative, woman who happens to be Black living a non-cultural lifestyle. There are a quite a few YouTube channels that discuss this and I considered reviving my YouTube channel but I vetoed that idea. I suspect this concept will influence all of my blogs.
