I never knew what people meant when they say: “Act your age” until I became older, over 40, and started seeing people my age deny their age. It seems to be a universal challenge today for individuals to exhibit a maturity level equivalent to the number of years he or she has been on this earth; children behave as if they are a mature adults and adults behave as if they are adolescents.
At 66 years old, I do not deny my bodies aging process. I may not have embraced menopause but I was not depressed because of it. I have joked about my hair growing and going at the same time. I don’t complain about arthritis however this is something I don’t embrace. Thankfully, I still have my memory! I am getting older and I am thankful for every day of my life.
As a follower of Jesus the Messiah, being older should be directly related to your having reached a level of maturity, wisdom, knowledge and understanding which coincides with appearance and behavior.
Hebrews 5:12 (KJV)
For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. We should be teachers not students. We should be acting our age.
I am amazed and saddened by the number of individuals, women in particular, who choose to revisit their adolescents in words, deeds and appearances.
It is not my desire to tell anyone how to dress or behave however, Christians who submit to the word of God should adhere to the word of God
Titus 2:1-5 (KJV)
1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
